Varnhem church & Kata Farm

Historic gems with a scenic route

Highlights: Historic church, archaeological site, scenic ride
Distance: Flexible – the area can be explored in various routes
Surface: Paved

Why this ride is worth it:

Varnhem is a must-visit if you enjoy history, architecture, and a good Swedish fika. The impressive medieval church Varnhem monastery and the archaeological site at Kata Gård give you a glimpse into Sweden’s Viking and early Christian past. Add to that a charming café serving delicious cakes and coffee, and you have the perfect cultural pit stop.

The ride there is just as rewarding as the destination. Taking Lerdalsvägen is especially magical in spring, when the cherry trees are in full bloom. Or Höjentorpvägen past Eggby Church, wich also is beautiful.

Tips and warnings:

Roadworks on road 49 will make access more difficult or possibly slow for a period of time. But that’s the boring road there, so who cares?
