Rackeby Snickartorpet by Vänern

Title

Highlights: Beautiful lakeside location, traditional wind shelters, firepit
Distance: ca. 20 km fra Lidköping
Surface: Mostly paved

Why this ride is worth it:

Rackeby Snickartorpet is a peaceful spot right by Lake Vänern, just north of Hindens Rev. Here you’ll find a charming old house and two large wind shelters (vindskydd) facing each other, with a firepit in between.

A vindskydd (wind shelter) is a simple three-sided shelter, open on one side, designed to provide protection from wind and rain while keeping you close to nature. Common in Nordic outdoor culture, they’re often used for rest stops or overnight camping, with space for sleeping bags and gear.

Perfect for an overnight stop or just a quiet moment.

The ride there is a mix of narrow paved country roads and easy gravel, accessible for any motorcycle. You can ride all the way to the shelters, which makes it great for bringing a picnic, making a fire, or even spending the night if you have a sleeping bag. I’ve only been here for day visits, but it’s one of those places where time slows down – birdsong, fresh air, and Vänern stretching out in front of you.

Tips and warnings

You can’t swim here, but it’s a good spot to launch kayaks.
A vindskydd is free to use, but follow there rules: Take your trash with you, respect fire bans, and leave the place as you found it, or better.
