Podcastguest talking about anxiety

My first podcast-appearance!

Last week i was guest at the podcast MC-tankar i kubik.
I was really nervous in the beginning. I don’t really know why, because I enjoy talking about both motorcycle riding and giving my tips to hopefully help others. The hosts, Lotta & Jannica were wonderful, and when I got into it the nervousness disappeared.

Anyway – one of the things we talked about was anxiety. And if you already saw my videos about my solo trip you know where I come from.  They asked me if I had some tips to share to reduce the anxiety – and actually I had some.

Tips for reducing anxiety

There are of course a lot of breathing techniques you can do, and also some focus techniques that I use.  But one thing that I discovered and that I really found helpful was this: Singing.

Yep, it sounds strange, but it works!
Here’s why: singing makes your vocal cords vibrate, and that vibration affects your vagus nerve, which signals your nervous system to calm down.. And I guess it also affects both the breathing and helps take the focus away from the anxiety.

It doesn’t matter what you sing, or how – just sing whatever you like. Pick a song you like, or some lyrics that gives you courage and sing your heart out.

Of course I took it one notch further: I made my own lyrics, and with the help of Suno (I’m not skilled enough to perform live) it became songs I could sing and relate to in a very personal way.

If you want to check it out, take a look at my Sparks of Joy-music here.

Verene, Sparks of Joy

I'm Verene. 160 cm tall (or short), Norwegian, living in Sweden. Adventure bikes were not designed with me in mind. Not any other bikes either, to be honest.

Yet here I am, riding a Triumph Tiger 900 GT Low. Most people would say it's too big for me (they're wrong.) I got my licence at 51, after a lifetime of performance anxiety telling me I couldn't.

Sparks of Joy is the honest version of that journey: the nerves, the drops and the joy. Short girl, big dreams.
