Hofsnäs Herrgård sits on land with a documented history stretching back over 700 years – inhabited since at least the 1300s, once owned by Swedish nobility (the Sparre and Stenbock families among them), and gifted by Gustav Vasa himself. The original main building burned down in 1923 and was rebuilt by 1928. Since 1964 it’s been owned by Borås stad as a recreation area, with a café running since 1965.
And yes – according to the sign I read, it’s said to be haunted. In a nice way. 👻

Why this ride is worth it:
The road there runs through a forest where you can practically picture Robin Hood and Maid Marian flirting among the trees. It’s breathtakingly beautiful.
Then it opens up – across lake Åsunden and through the Torpanäset nature reserve, which is absolutely stunning. (I’m not really the trail-hiking, bird-watching type, but even I got how fantastic it was.)
I had a Caecar salad, and called it lunch on my way to Älmhult. They also had buns, cakes and heartier lunch options. A very nice place to take a break and eat something in a really idyllic setting.
